Up the minute news and information on the Racing Yacht Coyote and her continuing journeys!
Well, we reached half way this morning so we had our party. Took “showers” for the first time, everyone feels great. Broke out the BBQ, a six pack of beer and cooked Filet Mignon, sun came out for a bit. We had a great run last night, we put on more miles than everyone, except one in our division during the past 24 hours. Winds have moderated a bit so the spinnaker went up first thing this morning, and we have had a great run today. Looks like we are hanging onto 3rd place, and perhaps gaining on 2nd place… This morning on Roll Call, looks like another few boats have dropped out of the race, and a few more are hanging on, some with major issues. Broken booms, headstay and backstay problems, one boat is taking on 20 gallons an hour and trying to repair their rudder stuffing box. We have been lucky so far, on;y minor breakage. The trip is hard work on everyone, nowhere to hide from the constant rolling and movement of the boat. Everything from getting dressed (3 times a day) to cooking, grooming, and just moving around take an enormous amount of energy. (Connie and others are black and blue - I guess I could get arrested if someone got the wrong idea!) Everyone continues to pitch in, even off watch, with sail changes and other heavy lifting. Other members of Coyote’s crew are also posting to the blog, so check it out at www.sailcoyote.com That’s it for now. Coyote & Crew
